A Little About Us Here At The FairTrades Glazing and Multi Trade Association

Joining A Glazing Association Just Might Be The Answer For Your Business!

As a contractor in the home improvement market you will most more than likely be looking for a way to get more out of your business.

Not only do you have to find new customers looking for a conservatory or replacement doors and windows, you need to prepare glazing quotations, order materials, train, manage and supervise your fitting teams, but you will most likely have to do some if not all of the work yourself. In August 2012 FairTrades was able to include one of the UK's leading international certification bodies; BM TRADA, to to our association members. FairTrades is now able to provide its members with access to most if not all of the UK's biggest Glazing Self Certification Schemes. This allows companies to the option to self certify for the replacement of Windows and Doors, using either FENSA, CERTASs and BM TRADA's Competent Persons Scheme. This scheme offers our members an alternative means of self certification. That's why joining a trade association makes so much sense.

There are many advantages in belonging to a recognised trade association. It is a proven fact that the public perceive a business to be more trustworthy if they belong to an established trade body. For more information regarding Competent Persons Schemes.

Why? Reputation equates to trust and thanks to the unbelievable popularity of home improvement shows, everyone who is lucky enough to own a home is paying far more weight to the home improvement sectors reputation.

The public now not only expect, but they demand
  • experienced contractors, work references, company id cards
  • sign writing on vans, professional looking quotes and contracts
  • insurance backed guarantees to be offered or supplied and professional, knowledgeable contractors to work for them
Faced with a bewildering array of double glaziers, plumbers, joiners, builders and electricians they need to feel confident that they are choosing someone who is part of a competent persons scheme and who has been vetted to work on their home. They are always looking for accreditation. BMTrada, Certass or FENSA, FairTrades membership, IPWFI and TrustMark are now tools of the trade for the majority of glass and glazing business owners.

The trends are evident and they are growing quickly. Your next customer is now more likely than ever to make a recognised trade association directory their first port of call, because they know that the people listed in these business directories conform to a high standard of professionalism. Standards that include experience, on the job vetting, financial checks and accreditation from an external source. They also aware that in the unlikely event of something going wrong there is a competent trade body they can approach when they feel their complaints have been ignored.

There are a number of professional trade associations and even a few trade federations you can join. Some are trade specific and others are multi trade associations like FairTrades. All offer a range of benefits to members but let's focus on what our trade association can do for you and your business.
